On December 14th, The Friends Of The Schooner Lotus (FOTSL) purchased the boat from the Seneca Waterways Council.  On December 21st, the LOTUS was transported to Beacon Bay Marina in Cayuga for indoor winter storage and assessment.  Cayuga Wooden Boat Works at the same location will provide FOTSL with estimates of a series of repairs and restorative work so fundraising can begin.  CWBW is willing to begin work very soon when funds become available.  Please help us get her back in the water soon!

About us

The Friends of the Schooner Lotus (FOTSL) were called together in 2018 by David and Rose Fox, and Tom and Martha Lightfoot.  These energetic members of the Sodus Historic organizations envisioned the LOTUS as a centerpiece for the local history, and educational tool for the public, and a valuable boat for the use by scouts, other organizations and the public to learn sailing and history.  The core group recruited other local and regional people in the sailing and scouting organizations with vested interests in accomplishing this goal.  After much agony, a sailing lawyer, passionate about the LOTUS, finally achieved the seemingly insurmountable and arrange the sale of the LOTUS to the FOTSL.  Now it is an incorporated entity in New York State under non-profit status, with the 501(c)(3) application to the IRS pending.  Fully insured and ready to do business, the captial campaign will soon kick off!

I was a scout leader in Sea Scout Ship 303 from 1995 to 2016.

I was a Mate in the unit and became a Master in 2000.

Also, I became the Director of Maintenance from 1999 to 2016.

I  have much information on work done during that period including

materials used, sequence of work, outstanding issues, etc.

Also have detailed plans of the sister ship from Mystic Seaport.
